Operatives of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have killed a suspected kidnapper and arrested two other suspects in the State.

Daily Trust reports that the combined team also rescued two kidnapped victims from captivity.

The incident, it was learnt, happened in the Agenegbode area, the administrative headquarters of Etsako East Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

The suspected kidnappers, had, on October 26, reportedly stormed the Ekperi and Ekwoiso-Uweppa communities, kidnapping two persons identified as Joseph Emmanuel (35) and Anthony Emmanuel (40), and killing one other person in the process.

Sources said following the report of the incident, operatives of the corps mobilized for bush-combing in search of the victims, trailing the kidnappers to a forest along the back of the River Niger in the Agenegbode area where the suspects were being held.

He said the operatives, however, called for backup and assistance from the Nigerian Army, leading to the successful rescue of the victims unhurt.

It was gathered that during the rescue operation, the kidnappers engaged the security forces in a gun battle, leading to one of the kidnappers being neutralized and two suspects arrested.

The Corps’ commander, Richard Balogun, confirmed the incident, stating that the arrested suspects and the recovered AK-47 rifle have been handed over to the police.
