The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Monday paraded four suspects, including an alleged kidnappers’ informant and a suspected supplier of drugs to kidnapping gangs, following a series of operations in the Paze-Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja.
He said the arrests followed an anti-kidnapping and rescue operation he personally led on June 9, 2026, in the Paze-Byazhin area.
According to him, a follow-up operation was carried out on June 11, during which operatives raided a suspected bandits’ and kidnappers’ hideout in the same area and apprehended four suspects linked to criminal activities.
The suspects were identified as Yahaya Abdullahi, Muhammed Yunusa, Hauwa Shafiu and Shamsudeen Mustapha.
Sanusi said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were members of a criminal network involved in kidnapping and banditry activities within and around the FCT.
Further investigations, he said, showed that the group had infiltrated local communities, enabling its members to gather intelligence and coordinate attacks on targeted individuals and locations.
“One of the suspects, a female identified as Hauwa Shafiu, allegedly served as a logistics supplier and cook for the criminal gang and their hostages. She was heavily pregnant at the time of her arrest and subsequently delivered a healthy baby while in police custody,” the commissioner said.
He added that both the mother and child had received adequate medical attention.
The police commissioner also said several exhibits were recovered from the suspects, including four motorcycles, 31 tablets of 500mg Tramadol, 10 tablets of 50mg Tramadol, N320,000 cash, five mobile phones, a Point of Sale (POS) machine and assorted cooking utensils.
Sanusi said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
