Suspected kidnappers, robbers arrested with N1.9m cash in Plateau
The Plateau State Police Command has arrested suspected kidnappers and robbers who were allegedly terrorizing a community market in the Bassa local government area of Plateau state.
State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday.
The commissioner said the suspects were arrested following intelligence gathering by police personnel and that all of the suspects confessed to their crimes.
Adesina said, “The Plateau State Police Command received a report on August 13, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m. from Abubakar Mohammadu, Nasiru Umar, and Haruna Mohammed, all male residents of the Kishika area, Binchin Village of Bassa Local Government Area. They reported that on July 27, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m., while on their way from Bukuru Cattle Market where they had sold three cows, they were attacked and robbed by some armed hoodlums with a locally made gun.
“During the attack, the hoodlums robbed them of the following sums of money: Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000.00), Four Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (N418,000.00), and Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N900,000.00), totaling about One Million, Nine Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (N1,918,000.00), all proceeds from the sale of their cows.
“Other items taken by the hoodlums included a Tecno T528 phone, two knives, an Itel phone, and three walking sticks. Following the report, detectives from the Bassa Division immediately swung into action, and as a result, the following suspects were arrested in connection with the offense: Jafaru Sale, Abdulsalam Adam, and Mamuda Musa. The suspects confessed to being responsible for the armed robberies that have been carried out in the Bassa and Jengre communities,” he added.
The commissioner, however, said the suspects are currently under investigation at the State CID and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
In a related development, the commissioner said that while acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the Langtang South Division raided the house of one Kokyak, a male resident of Mabudi, on August 18, 2025.
He said, “Upon reaching the house, it was discovered that the suspect had fled to an unknown location. After executing a search warrant at his residence, one locally fabricated rifle with an empty magazine was recovered. Efforts are on to arrest the suspect for proper prosecution.”
