The Delta State Government has arraigned Godwin Mngumi and Nnaji Abalum, accused of murdering retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, before the State High Court sitting in Asaba.

The defendants were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on armed robbery, conspiracy, and murder. 

The offences were allegedly committed on November 27, 2025, at the residence of the late jurist in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The prosecution team, led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, informed the court that investigations into the matter have been concluded. 

He stated that the police have completed their portion of the investigation and assured the court of the prosecution’s readiness to diligently pursue the case.

“The Delta State Government remains committed to ensuring that justice is served,” he added.

The defendants, represented by Ernest Edomwonyi, Director of the Public Defender, and E. I. Opiah, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding judge adjourned the matter to April 14, 2026, for the prosecution to open its case and present witnesses.
