A mob reportedly lynched a suspected motorcycle thief along new Kutunku area in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A resident of new Kutunku, Danjuma Alhassan, said the incident happened on Tuesday around 5:23 pm when the suspect allegedly stole a motorcycle in Gwagwalada main market.
He said the motorcycle was parked close to the grain section of the market and the criminal allegedly removed it.
He said the owner of the bike, who was on his way back to carry the bike, sighted the suspect riding it out of the market and he quickly raised an alarm.
He said, “In the process, some commercial motorcyclists chased and apprehended him along the new Kutunku forest.”
He said the suspect was killed at the spot and his corpse set ablaze.
Alhassan said some vigilantes at the market, who got wind of the incident, also mobilised to the scene but his corpse had already been set on fire before they could arrive at the scene.
A vigilante member, Kabiru Ladan, who confirmed the incident to our reporter through telephone, said the hoodlum was lynched before the vigilantes could arrive the scene.
He said, ‘’According to information from some Okada riders, the suspect is a notorious motorcycle thief.
‘’The vigilante has reported the incident to security agents in the area in order to see how his corpse could be buried.’’
The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, said she was not aware of the incident.
