Residents of Unguwar Azzara in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT have caught one Rabiu Alhassan after he scaled a fence into a neighbour’s compound to steal a motorcycle in the area.
A resident of Azzara, Labaran Saidu, said the incident happened on Thursday, around 5:12am when the owner of the bike, identified as Sayyadi, left his house to observe the Subhi prayers at a nearby mosque in the area.
He said the suspect, who also resided around the area, stealthily went through the man’s back fence and jumped into the compound.
According to him, a woman who came out to prepare food in the kitchen saw the suspect and raised the alarm.

He said the suspect tried to pass through the main gate but discovered that the owner of the house had already locked it from the outside while going to the mosque.
He said the woman’s alarm attracted other people inside the compound, who rushed to trap the suspect inside the compound.
He said, “Some young men, who are tenants in the compound, grabbed the suspect, tied him down until the owner returned from the mosque and handed him over to the vigilantes.”
Our reporter also learnt that the suspect had been arrested on different occasions for allegedly invading neighbours’ houses, including a mosque, to steal a motorcycle in the area.
One of the vigilantes, Yakubu Musa, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying he has been arrested on several occasions for theft of people’s motorcycles in the area.
“This is not the first time the man has been stealing people’s motorcycles. Anytime you arrest him and take him to the police station, before you know what is happening, they will release him. After, you will hear that he has stolen a bike in another place,” he said.
The police in the area said the incident was not reported at the station.
