A suspected phone thief has been beaten up and tied to an electric pole in Abaji.
The suspect, identified as Bala, 24, allegedly stole two android handsets from a mosque in the area.
A resident, Kabiru Ibrahim, said a mob tied the suspect to an electric pole after the phones were found with him.
He said the incident happened at about 4:34 am when some residents, were already in the mosque, for the early morning prayer.
“The residents were charging their phones before the suspect allegedly removed them. It was when they were about to observe the early morning prayers that the man entered the mosque and pretended to join the prayer but he quietly removed two handsets,” he said.
He said the suspect was beaten before he was tied to an electric pole, adding that the intervention of some elders led to his release.
