Suspected ritualist, pregnant wife arrested in Benue

 

The police in Benue State have arrested a suspected ritualist (yahoo boy), his pregnant wife alongside five others in Makurdi metropolis of the state.

Spokeswoman of the police, SP Catherine Anene, said the suspected ritualist, one Godspower Oghenerumu and his wife with the others had just relocated to Makurdi from Delta State to practise their illegal trade before they were apprehended.

She said, “On 21/11/2023 at about 1900hrs while a police team was on routine patrol along Barracks Road, Makurdi, information was received that one Godspower Oghenerumu, a suspected ritualist (yahoo yahoo), his pregnant wife and five others had arrived Makurdi from Delta State and where caring out ritual activities.

“The team rushed to the scene and arrested the spiritual leader, his wife and five others.

“During investigation, followers of the ritualist stated that they were involved in some ritual activities in Delta State that did not yield any money as promised, so Godspower told them that the spirit had directed that they should move to Benue where further directives will be given to them on how money will be manufactured. Investigation is ongoing,” she said.

In a similar development, the command also said on November 23, 2023 at about 8pm it received information at ‘E’ Division in Makurdi that one Misaq Eke of Mbakiya village, Ugondo District, Makurdi was robbed and his belongings carted away.

Anene explained that during investigation, one Ushahemba Ayoough and Jeremiah Ugborgo were arrested in connection with the case and that one locally fabricated barretta pistol was recovered from them.

 

The police spokeswoman added that the suspects confessed to have gone for the robbery with two other gang members who are at large, stressing that efforts are in place to arrest the remaining suspects.
