At least one person is killed in an encounter with officials of counter terrorism unit of Enugu police early Thursday.
The man killed and his colleagues had blocked of 9th Mile-Nsukka road with sticks bearing nails and forced vehicles to stop then robbed passengers.
The counter terrorism operatives got information on ongoing robbery and encountered the robbers in a gun fight.
One was fatally wounded and later died. Others escaped into nearby jungles with injuries, said Enugu state police spokesman SP Ebere Amaraizu
Recovered from them were sticks fixed with nails, their gun and some handsets allegedly robbed from their victims, according to Amaraizu.
Meanwhile the police in the state has advised members of the public particularly hospital operators concerning any one that will approach them with “wounds suspected to be that of bullet, to promptly report to the nearest police station or commands headquarters for necessary action.”
Also, the state police command has assured members of the public especially good people of the state that arrangements have been concluded by the police command working in partnership with the other security agencies and relevant stake holders in the state for “a safe and secured as well as hitch free yuletide in the state.”
