Suspected armed robbers have invaded three houses on Lambarene Close, Wuse II, Abuja.

The residence of the president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Bello Bala Shagari, was among the houses invaded during which valuables were carted away.

Shagari said the armed robbers invaded and ransacked his duplex in Wuse II at about 3am on Tuesday.

“Such has never occurred before. There have been cases of robbery around the area, but for them to break into houses is very strange and traumatizing,” he said.

A witness, Ahijo Muhammad, who said no life was lost during the attack, added that “they were fully armed with knives; there were about 10 of them who broke the door at the entrance.

“Four of them broke down the door while others entered other apartments. I had to run into the nearest room because it would  be futile for me to stand up to them alone.”

Another witness, Ibrahim, said, “when they broke in, I ran into the president’s bedroom. We were able to keep the door closed as the robbers tried to force themselves inside. I went to the window to raise an alarm which scared them away.”

He said the robbers gained access to the compound through the fence behind the compound.

Tina Williams, who resides in a separate apartment, said they broke into her apartment and carted away her belongings. “They took my tablet, jewellery box, and a television set from one of my neighbours’ room.

“They ransacked all the rooms in the house. They were with machetes, knives and other weapons, with one of them holding a gun,” she said.
