The police on Monday arraigned nine suspected teenage cultists in an Ota Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ogun.

The suspects are: Sulaimon Ganiyu 19; Amechi Goodluck, 19, Akonmosa Boluwatife, 19, Jeelili Adebowale, 19, Babatunde Akeem, 19, Riliwan Owolabi, 18, Segun Olarewaju, 18, Salawu Azeez, 18 and Azeez Kazimu, 18.

The defendants are facing three counts charge each of being members of an unlawful society, conspiracy and breach of peace.

They all denied the charges.

The police prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, said the defendants committed the offences on May 3, at Plaza Area, Ota in Ogun.

Mustapha alleged that the defendants belonged to a society identified as “Orikankere Confraternity’’.

He told the court that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by stirring trouble and smoking Indian hemp in public.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 5 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Revised Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The chief magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted each of the defendants N300, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.

He further ordered that the sureties also showed evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until June 17 for further hearing. (NAN)
