Vigilantes have arrested a 37-year-old man, Hamza Suleiman, for allegedly breaking into a woman’s apartment and stealing N238,000 belonging to a contribution group in Unguwar Dodo, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

A member of the vigilante group, Isyaku Danjuma, said the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 11pm.

He said the suspect allegedly entered the woman’s room after she went out to use a pit latrine and made away with a container in which the money was kept.

According to him, the woman raised an alarm immediately after discovering the theft, attracting neighbours who pursued the suspect as he attempted to flee.

Danjuma said the suspect was later intercepted and handed over to vigilante operatives, who subsequently transferred him to the police.

He added that the suspect was beaten by an angry mob before he was rescued by the vigilantes.

He further alleged that the suspect is notorious in the area for burglary and theft.

A police source at the Gwagwalada Division confirmed the arrest, adding that investigation was ongoing and the suspect would be charged in court upon completion of inquiries.
