Update: Rivers PDP occupies party’s headquarters, demands Secondus’s sack

Suspected thugs dragging a casket to protest what they called undue favour for Rivers’ PDP guber aspirant Nyesom Wike at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday

 

The headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja has remained under siege by aggrieved members of the party from Rivers state.
Protesters from the state barricaded all entry points to the national secretariat of the party with an empty casket insisting that the national vice chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, who is also from Rivers, must be removed by the party’s national leadership.

The protesters under the umbrella of Coalition of Rivers State PDP House of Assembly and National Assembly Aspirants suspected to have brought thugs wielding guns and knives.

 

They were still drinking under a tent raised by them in front of the party’s national secretariat at 4pm when this story was being filed.

 

They are also demanding that the executive of the state chapter of the party be dissolved while a new ‘unbiased’ one been set up.
The armed thugs who ordered men of the Police and Civil Defence Corps out of the secretariat also barricaded the entrance thereby not allowing PDP officials entry into the secretariat.

Journalists who were at the secretariat were also ordered to leave while senior Police officers from outside the PDP secretariat were standing opposite the secretariat watching the development.
The protesters are also accusing the national leadership of the party of giving undue favour to former Minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike over other PDP governorship aspirants ahead of the 2015 elections.

They besieged the party’s secretariat as early as 8am looking for officials of the party “to deal with them”.

They regretted not coming at noon when all officials would have been available to enable them deal with the PDP officials.
Meanwhile, more policemen have been deployed to the secretariat but no one has been allowed access into it since then.
However, national vice chairman of the party in the South-South, Cairo Ojougbo assured that the party would do the needful through dialogue
