A suspected vandal, identified as Jamilu Adamu, was reportedly electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables in Chukuku village, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

Kayode Gabriel, a resident of Chukuku, said the incident occurred last Thursday around 9:47 pm, shortly after power was restored to the community.

He said the suspect and an accomplice broke into a transformer enclosure to cut the cables when Adamu was electrocuted.

He said, ‘’Upon discovering his partner was trapped, the second suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by the vigilantes.

“They were two that came to remove the transformer cables.

“ One of them was electrocuted instantly, while his colleague was about to escape when vigilante apprehended him.”

According to Gabriel, the community had just contributed money to repair the transformer two weeks prior, after the cables were earlier stolen.

A member of the community’s vigilante group, Ishaku Moses, confirmed the incident, stating that one person was arrested and another was electrocuted while trying to vandalize the transformer.

Moses said the remains of the deceased were taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital morgue, and the arrested suspect was handed over to security operatives in Kuje.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, has yet to comment on the incident.
