Speaking with Trustsports in a telephone interview, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu, described the suspension as capable of taking Nigerian football years backward.

“The government has not taken the interest of the Nigerian youth into consideration before it took the decision. What would happen to our U-17, U-20, Super Falcons and other teams, who are not doing too badly in their own categories?

“If the suspension is upheld, some of our players would be left with no other option, but to go to some neighbouring countries like Niger Republic, Benin Republic and so on and naturalise, simply because they want to play international matches.

“If the suspension stands and FIFA bans us for interference, what would happen to our club sides, football sponsorship and other football business in Nigeria?

“The government should sit down with football administrators in Nigeria and find out where we have gone wrong. Those found guilty should be punished, so that we can start to get things right again. Nigerian youths need football and we should take steps that will enhance its growth, not its collapse,” Dosu said.

 “I am appealing to the government of Nigeria to as a matter of urgency do something before FIFA’s hammer lands on Nigeria. We should not destroy the future of our youths who earn their living from football in the name of rescuing the game in the country,” former Eagle’s midfielder, GarbaLawal appealed.
