Daily Trust reports that the kidnapping of highly placed individuals in places such as Gboko, Kastina-Ala, Ukum and its environs are done almost on daily basis by unknown gunmen in the past few weeks.
The latest being the abduction and eventual release of the provost of the College of Education, Katsina-Ala Dr. Hans Senwua and one Kon Innocent, proprietor of Kon Adema Nursery and Primary School in Gboko who is yet to regain freedom.
Suswam had blamed the upsurge of kidnapping and criminal activities on desperate politicians who, according to him, are importing violence as a means to achieve their electoral victory and vowed to bring the culprits caught by security agencies to book.
The governor, through his media aide, James Uloko, blamed “those who obviously took advantage of the unfortunate incident (provost’s kidnap) to mobilise hoodlums to cause confusion, attack people and property with the sole aim of reaping political capital in the forthcoming elections.”
“Politicians who genuinely wish to lead the people should channel their concern, if they have any, to the appropriate authorities rather than instigating the youths against their opponents,” he also said.
In a similar vein, Ortom has urged security agencies to hold the state government under Suswam responsible for the recent spate of kidnappings and political violence in the state.
He spoke when the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, (NHRC), Professor Bem Angwe, led a delegation from the commission to pay a visit on him in Makurdi.
