Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) investigative panel looking into the case involving the engineers that handled the Synagogue Church collapsed building in Lagos penultimate  adjourned the hearing due to the absence of the engineers.
 Engr. Nurudeen Rafindadi who chaired the panel having listened to the presentation of the solicitor, Barrister Oluseun Abimbola he made it clear to the council that the panel is not interested in the criminal part of the case.
What it is doing is simply an investigation into the professional misconduct of the two engineers that handled the failed project.
 “We are calling for investigation pertaining the alleged misconduct and this is an open investigation of colleagues and to know whether members have conducted themselves in line with our laid down rules and regulations,” he said.
 Rafindadi said the case in Lagos is a criminal matter and separate from what the panel is doing in Abuja, adding the panel would communicate with the engineers to appear in the next proceeding which would be communicated to them.
Abimbola earlier in his presentation said the engineers were absent because the notice of appeal was submitted to the court adding that there was yet another case before the High Court in Lagos which is suit number ID/555MJR of 2015 – between the Synagogue Church of all Nations and the coroner verdict upon which this case is prejudiced.
 He said COREN had to look into a more fundamental issue and not make a decisive statement that the collapsed building was caused by engineering failure.
