In an article published in “Spotlight,” a newsletter published by the trade mission of the republic of China (Taiwan) in Nigeria, in-bound tourism in Taiwan rose 26.7 per cent in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year.
Japan follows closely in second place with 26.4 per cent growth. Meanwhile international tourists’ arrivals worldwide hit 517 million; up 4.6 per cent the report said.
Commenting on the report, Tourism Bureau Deputy Director-General Liu Hsi-Lin said that the growth in foreign tourist arrivals reflected Taiwan’s international promotion efforts, especially its move to attract Asian tourists.
About 90 per cent of the tourists recorded were from Asia, led by China, Japan, and Hong Kong.
Liu said the bureau would continue to promote the nation’s beautiful scenery and rich culture to potential foreign visitors this year, and is confident of attracting 9.5 million visitors for the whole year, up from about 8 million last year.
