The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of Nigeria and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, has asked lawmakers of Plateau State House of Assembly to be part of the peace process in the state.

He said this when members of the State House of Assembly paid him a visit at the headquarters of 3 division, Jos.

While assuring the legislators of the military’s readiness to collaborate in initiatives that promote sustainable peace and development in the state, the major general encouraged lawmakers to lead peace initiatives within their constituencies while the military continues its efforts through both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to combat insecurity.

According to the commander for peace to adequately manage, “It is essential that the state government adopts an inclusive policy to address the grievances of communities, particularly those often overlooked outside of election periods.”

Oyinlola highlighted the complexities and difficulties faced by security forces, reaffirming the need for continued support and resources to tackle these challenges effectively.

He stressed that security is a collective responsibility that necessitates collaboration among the legislature, community leaders, youth, and other key stakeholders, saying, “We must unite in our peace-building programs, which are crucial for the long-term stability of Plateau State.”

Speaking earlier, Speaker of Plateau state House of Assembly , Hon. Daniel Naanlong, called for establishment of crisis resolution committee to address lingering violent attacks in the state.

Hon. Naanlong, newly elected Speaker of the House, emphasized that one way to achieve peace is to establish crisis resolution committee in the state.

Naanlong, who centered his address on the security challenges bedeviling the state, emphasized the Assembly’s role as the voice of the people.

He expressed hope that the recurrent violence in the state requires immediate legislative intervention, explaining that, “We are here today to identify with you and commend your efforts in tackling security challenges in the state.”

While calling for more efforts in tackling insecurity, the speaker underscored the importance of the military’s dedication to safeguarding lives and properties.
