The remaining members disbanded in 1996 but reformed in 2005. Since then, they have had three number one singles and two sell-out tours.

Last month, Williams announced on his website he was releasing a single with former bandmate Gary Barlow.Shame, co-written by the pair, is due out on 4 October and will also appear on Williams’s greatest hits album, In And Out Of Consciousness.

In a statement on his website, Williams said the album was “not only a celebration of my past but also a bridge to the future”.“The fact that part of the future includes a name from my past makes it all the more poignant for me.”

Williams launched a hugely successful solo career after leaving the band in 1995.The star, who was presented with the outstanding contribution award at the Brits earlier this year, has had eight number one albums in the UK.
