Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has been conferred with the UNESCO 2018 Education Solution Stakeholders Award.

While presenting the award at the United Nations headquarters Millennium Hotel in New York, USA, chairman of the award committee, Dr Hul Hsu said the governor was nominated for the award in recognition of his selfless contribution to quality education in his state.

"The award committee recognize only personalities who made exceptional contributions to quality education," he said

A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Public Affairs, Abdullahi S. Danko said that Tambuwal was represented by the state commissioner for higher education, Dr Mohammad Jabbi Kilgori and the chairman, House Committee on Education Hon. Aminu Bala Bodinga.

It would be recalled that Tambuwal had in 2015 declared state of emergency in the education sector in the state.
