Two children on Thursday lost their lives at Madalla market, situated along Abuja/Kaduna highway in Niger State, when a tanker conveying diesel fell on the car they were in.
It was learnt that the children, aged 13 and 15 years, were in their father’s car, while he went into the market.
The Sarkin Kasuwan Madalla, Malam Idris Salihu, speaking to City News, yesterday, said the father of the children, who was a trader, had closed business on the fateful day, but decided to join the sunset prayers by the market, while the children were in his car.
Another witness, Nasir Sani, said the tanker driver was negotiating to park opposite the market when he lost control.
“The truck fell over the car and another parked near it after it lost control and its container tumbled off it,” he added.
The deceased children who were resident in Gwagwa, Abuja, have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Confirming the incident, Madalla Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Adamu Danjuma, said the children were in their father’s vehicle as it was raining.
