A tragedy was averted during the weekend in Kwara State when a petrol tanker exploded during a rescue operation by operatives of the State Fire Service on the Bode-Saadu Expressway in Moro Local Government Area.

The incident occurred beside Ibrosalam Filling Station when the tanker the firemen had gone to rescue exploded.

 According to the spokesman of the service, Hassan Adekunle, the tanker had somersaulted and “while the firemen were trying to rescue the situation, it caught fire and exploded.

“Such development is very rare, and we discovered it was due to overloading and overspeeding.”

He, however, said the firemen at the site escaped unhurt.
