The Taraba State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Tukur Ibrahim El-Sudi, has said Governor Agbu Kefas’ potential defection to the party would help strengthen its support base, assuring that the move would not short-change the existing members.

While welcoming the move as a welcome development, the party Chairman said it would be suicidal for the party to shut its doors to people interesting in joining the APC.

El-Sudi stated that the party’s constitution guarantees equal rights and opportunities for both old and news members, emphasising that there would be agreements and give-and-take, and that popularity among the people and within the members will ultimately determine electoral success.

Dismissing concerns that the coming of the Governor into the party would short-change some members, the Chairman noted that APC would emerge stronger with more people joining from other parties.

“Nobody will be short-changed by the coming of Governor Kefas, and other people into APC because there will be agreements and give-and-take. And what is more important is that popularity among people and in the party matters more in winning elections.” he said.

The APC chairman advised members not to worry about competition from State and National Assembly members eyeing APC, saying popularity among the people and within the party is what truly matters in winning elections.

El-Sudi emphasised that the APC would not prevent Governor Kefas and other people from joining the party, noting that its strength lies in its ability to attract new members.

Ibrahim El-Sudi further explained that the current National Leadership of the APC will provide a level playing ground for all members, and therefore old members in Taraba APC should not fear anything.

He further added, “It is unnecessary to talk about the party’s structure now because we have three to four months left to the end our tenure, which brings the issue of popularity among the people and in the party to the fore for any member.”
