Taraba Commissioner for Education, Mr. Johanes Jigem, has said 65 junior secondary schools have been established to educate 285,000 out of school children.

He made the disclosure in Jalingo at the inauguration of the State Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP-AF).

He said SEPIP-AF was supported by the World Bank under its Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme.

He said the programme was aimed at increasing access to education among out of school children, improving literacy, especially in early grades, and strengthening education system for result and accountability.

Mr Jigem said under SEPIP-AF, 5,400 teachers would be trained and deployed to rural communities in the state.

He said other benefits of the programme include providing schools with grants, instructional materials, vehicles, among others.
