The Taraba State Government has expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay in the restoration of power supply to the state by the federal government.

Jalingo, the state capital, and some other towns in the central northern zones of the state have experienced power outage for the past three weeks now.

Speaking to reporters in Jalingo, the Commissioner of Energy and Economic Development, Engr Naomi Tanko Agbu, said residents were faced with many challenges due to the ongoing blackout, which has also severely hampered economic activities in the region.

Agbu revealed that despite the state government’s efforts to engage the Minister of Power on this critical issue, no concrete steps have been taken to address the situation.

She condemned the vandalism of the 330kV power transmission line towers along the Jos-Gombe  line on April 22, 2024, labelling it as a deliberate act of sabotage, and urged the federal government to expedite the restoration of normal power supply without further delay.

Expressing disappointment over the lack of responsiveness from relevant authorities, Agbu emphasised the urgent need for action, especially considering the dire situation faced by the northeast region, which includes the vice president’s home state.
