Taraba govt owes retirees N20bn gratuity – Union

The Chairman of Taraba State branch of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Comrade Hassan Boboji, has disclosed that the state government owes retired workers N20 billion gratuity.
He said over 6,000 state and local government workers that retired in the last 10 years have not been paid their gratuity.
Boboji said the union had persistently appealed to the government to pay the backlog of gratuity but without any response from it.
He lamented that local government pensioners in the state were also not paid for the last four months.
He explained that retired workers, especially local government retirees were facing hardship due to lack of payment of their gratuity and delay in payment of their monthly pension.
The chairman called on Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku to offset the gratuity by allocating money on monthly basis for the payment as practiced by the previous administrations in the state.
