Taraba govt pledges improved water supply, sanitation

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State

Taraba State government has said that it will focus more on improving water supply and sanitation.

Under the new arrangement, the state water and sewerage corporation (TAWASCO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on improving service delivery to its customers.

The corporation has also set a target of generating N15 million as monthly revenue.

To achieve the set target, the state government has given TAWASCO the mandate to operate without its intervention under the new arrangement.

According to the terms of the agreement, TAWASCO is to build a high performance culture within the corporation by introducing incentive-based performance contract and business planning.

Others include target setting, district competition as well as implementing a strong management and evaluation (M&E) framework among others which are proven strategies to change management in the reform of utilities.

The  Chairman, Water Sector Reforms Committee, Anthony Jellason, said as part of the water reforms,  the state government has installed 10 water machines at various points to ensure that water supplied is clean.

He urged consumers to settle their water bills to enable the corporation to succeed in meeting its target.

The Managing Director of TAWASCO, Engr. Musa Buba Siyam, assured that the corporation will not increase the tariff it currently charges rather it will improve its services.
