Taraba Monarch warns Fishermen against using chemicals, explosive to catch Fishes

The Chief of Mutumbiyu chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba State, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammed, has issued a strong warning to all fishermen in his domain to stop using chemicals and explosive in catching fish or be sanctioned.

The Monarch gave the warning in his palace at Mutumbiyu shortly after he turbanned the Sarkin Tarun Mutumbiyu chiefdom ( leader of Fishermen) Alhaji Bala Jambari and the Danrimin Mutumbiyu, Alhaji  Tukura Julde, Wednesday.

He said the the practice of using chemicals and explosive by some Fishermen in their fishing activities was responsible of declining of fish population and extinction of many fish species in Rivers and ponds in his domain and Taraba state in general.

Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammed, reminded the Fishermen that there is existing laws in Taraba State which prohibited such acts adding that any Fisherman  found involved in such acts will be dealt with in accordance with laws.

He charged the Sarkin Tarun  of Mutumbiyu chiefdom to monitor activities of his members and discourage them from such practices, adding that  the consequences of such acts also affect the environment.

” Fish population has reduced drastically,many fish species was extinct and Fishermen who rely solely on fishing for their livelihoods are facing poor catch of fish and the of chemicals and explosive was responsible of this situation ” the Monarch said

The Monarch, also charged his subjects to continue to leave in peace with one another pointing out that peace is vital to the development of any society.

He also urged people in his domain to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.

In his address,  the Sarkin Tarun Mutumbiyu who spoke on behalf of the newly turbanned tittle holders, appreciated the trust the chief of Mutumbiyu has reposed  on them for giving them  the tittles and promised to be supportive of the Monarch and work for the peace and harmonious coexisting of people in the chiefdom.

He also pledged to ensure that the use of chemicals and explosive is stopped by all Fishermen in the chiefdom and urged the Fishermen to support and cooperate with him.
