The Nigerian Union of Road transport workers ( NURTW) in Taraba State has raised alarm over  increasing cases of  kidnapping and car snatching along four roads that lead into Takum town in southern Taraba State.

The Takum  Local Government Area branch chairman of the union   Alhaji Zakari Baban Kogi, told Daily Trust in an interview in Takum that because of that threats poses to drivers and people plying roads leading to Takum,the union has discouraged its members from travelling along the roads as  from 5pm,adding that the roads  are nolonger safe to travel from 5pm.

The union however called on Taraba State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to save lives and property of innocent Nigerians plying the roads.

He stated that  four roads leading into Takum town  from different part of the state is very dangerous to ply due to activities of Kidnappers and armed robbers and other criminal elements.

He said the roads include Maraban Baissa_ Takum, Takum_ Wukari, Takum _ Katsina Ala road and Takum _ Kashinbili road.

The chairman stated that over the years the four road have became death trap and many people including women and children were abducted with many of them died in the hand of the Kidnappers while there are still many in captivity.

Zakari Baban kogi, stated that apart from kidnapping many vehicles belonging to individuals and commercial drivers were hijacked.

” My vehicles and many other vehicles were forcefully taken away by the Kidnappers along Takum_ Katsina Ala road and some the vehicles are yet to be recovered.

 

” No body is safe along these roads especially the road from Takum_ to Katsina Ala and the dangers is more now as at 5pm,  many people including a senior Medical Doctor and his family were abducted and died in the hands of Kidnappers ” he said

The chairman said worse affected by insecurity along the four roads leading into Takum town are commercial vehicles and trucks drivers, adding that many drivers were abducted, killed and their vehicles forcefully taken away by Kidnappers ” he said.

He however lauded the efforts of soldiers, the police and civil defence Corps who were deployed to provide security along the roads and called for sustained patrol and deployment of more security agents along the roads to protect lives and property of innocent Nigerians plying the roads.
