Hundreds of primary school teachers took to streets in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital in protest over non-payment of their salaries for several months.

At the state branch of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) along Donga Road in Jalingo where they converged, the teachers demanded the leadership of the union to put pressure on the state government to pay their salaries.

Mr. Jonathan James who spoke on behalf of the protesters said the teachers were disappointed over the refusal of government to pay their salaries despite the successful completion of employee verification exercise.

 “It is surprising that despite the verification exercise conducted by the state Universal Basic Education Board on all teachers are yet to be paid,” he said.

 

Meanwhile the chairman of SUBEB, Mr. Yakubu Agbaizo said the verification exercise was marred by some challenges and that the challenges are being addressed.
