Taraba youths hail FG on special work programme

A cross section of youths in Jalingo have commended the federal government for initiating the Special Works Programme.
North East Trust reports that 16, 000 youths have been erolled in the state under the programme.
Some of the beneficiaries told North East Trust in an interview that the scheme would enable them generate some income.
Lami Bala, one of the beneficiaries from Gassol Local Government Area, thanked the government for giving her opportunity to work and be paid.
According to her, the N20, 000 monthly allowance meant a lot to her because she never counted N5,000 as her own.
Lami stated that she would use part of the allowance to start a small business after the three months services.
Bulus Yakubu, another beneficiary, said it was a great joy for him to be enrolled under the programme and pledged to put his best to justify the payment he was going to receive.
North East Trust correspondent reports that those enrolled would carry out road maintenance, clearance of drainages, maintenance of culverts and tree planting among others.
The state coordinator of National Directorate of Employment in Taraba State, Alhaji Illiyasu Illela at the flagging-off of the programme in Jalingo, recently said the scheme was one of the best and far-reaching grassroots employment programme in the country.
He urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the good gesture by putting in their best in areas they were posted .
