The national leadership of Langtang ethnic nationality has said it will wade into the prevailing political conflict bedevilling Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
National President of Ngwang Ishi O’ Tarok, Ambassador Danjuma Nanpon Sheni, disclosed this in his acceptance speech as the newly elected National President of the Tarok ethnic nationality.
Langtang North LGA in Plateau State has been enmeshed in political crisis following the conduct of local government elections across the state last month.
The incumbent chairman of Langtang North LGA, Hon.Ubandoma Laven, is claiming his tenure as election chairman has not expired while a newly elected chairman from last month’s election has been sworn-in to take over.
Hon. Laven whose election was dissolved by the state governor to give way for the election has already obtained a declaration from a state high court as the rightful chairman of the council, affirming that his tenure still runs till October 2022.
“Given the current fragile peace situation in Langtang North LGA, we intend to immediately and constructively engage our governor, Rt. Hon Simon Lalong, and other critical stakeholders for a quick and peaceful resolution of the confusion surrounding the chairmanship of the local government.
“We note with concern the recent peaceful demonstrations by our women, youths and mothers in the Palace of Ponzhi Tarok.
“In the meantime, we appeal to all Tarok women and youths to halt the protest and avoid anything that will further jeopardise the situation.
“We assure all stakeholders that we shall do everything possible to resolve the matter in the overall interest of the Tarok nation”
Amb. Sheni also promised to launch intervention into challenges that had made the Tarok paramount stool remain vacant for years after the demise of the last Ponzhi Tarok.
The diplomat also promised to work for the unity of Tarok people worldwide and see to the construction of a befitting national secretariat for the organisation.
