The state government had on July 1, 2010 commenced the enforcement of the use of pedestrian bridges on its highways as part of activities to ensure safety of lives and sanity on the roads by the Lagos state government.  

In one particular day in an exercise, undertaken by the state commissioner for Transportation Professor Bamidele Badejo and Chairman Taskforce, SP Bayo sulaimon at Ojota expressway 57 people were arrested in line with the directives of the Lagos State House of Assembly that the movement of okada along Ojota, Ketu express axis must be prohibited so as to improve traffic movement along the corridor and also reduce the menace of okada along the Ojota expressway.

According to the commissioner the exercise is a continuous one and pledged its sustainability as well as readiness of law enforcement agents to meet up to the tasks. He noted that it is suicidal for any sane person to cross an express road with eight lanes and added that government will not rest on its oars to provide more road infrastructures to meet the demand of the populace

 Professor Bamidele, while urging the populace to have a change of attitude in order for government’s investment to yield positive fruits said pedestrians must always make use of the bridges available to protect life.

While the commissioner noted that law is no respecter of anybody, he warned all and sundry to obey the clarion call and be safety conscious and obey the law of the land.

The exercise which witnessed the arrest of three (3) military personnel for crossing over the expressway also saw 20 okada operators for driving on a dual carriage road (Ojota Express road), walkways and the median.

According to the Chairman, Lagos State Task force SP Bayo Sulaimon they would be charge to court as soon as possible. He advised okada operators to be law abiding as their operation is guided by law and regulation.
