The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) task force has given a 7-day ‘Removal Order’ to owners and occupiers of all illegal structures/shanties in  Fagba, Abattoir, and  New Oko-Oba to remove them along with their properties or risk losing them.

The task force also said the structures had been impeding free flow of traffic, and it is a haven for criminals.

Chairman of the Task force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, who made this disclosure, on Sunday, said over 2,500 shanties including containerised shops were served the demolition order.

Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), said investigation carried out by the agency revealed that some of the hoodlums residing in the marked houses were among those who burnt and destroyed both public and private properties along that axis during the last #EndSARS protest.

“It is an eye-sore to see how hoodlums, especially underage boys, freely smoke Indian hemp around the areas.

“You will recall that as part of the spot assessment of the extent of destruction of both public and private properties by miscreants  during the last protest, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, visited Fagba along Abattoir, new Oko-Oba area,” he said.

According to him, residents around Fagba along Abbatoir, new Oko-Oba area could no longer sleep with their two eyes closed due to a series of criminal activities perpetuated by notorious criminals who live in the shanties.

Egbeyemi confirmed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that immediately after the expiration of the 7 days ‘Removal Order” any hoodlum arrested would be charged to court.

He maintained that the agency would not relent in securing a safe environment for citizens in the state and the country at large.
