Taskforce arrests 9 suspected cultists in Edo

The Edo State Special Security Squad has arrested nine suspected cultists and recovered arms in Iguoshodin N’ Ikpemaba, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The taskforce coordinator, Idemudia Noah, said the arrest was made in collaboration with security agencies and local vigilantes following credible intelligence.

He said the task force on September 3, 2025, received intelligence that members of a cult group were terrorizing residents in the community.

He said the task force, in collaboration with security team, stormed the area and arrested nine suspected cultists during the operation.

He listed the items recovered from the suspects to include two Baretta pistols, two cut-to-size double-barrel guns, and live AK-47 ammunition. He alleged that arms and ammunition were recovered from the premises of a building allegedly belonging to the Okaighele of Omi, Mr. Osazuwa Igbineweka, who has since been declared wanted by the police for allegedly constituting a threat to peace in the community.

He said preliminary investigations point to the suspects being members of the Eiye confraternity, a cult group notorious for violent clashes and criminal activities across several Edo communities.
