At least 100 official number-plates were confiscated from unauthorised persons by the Jigawa State taskforce committee on retrieval of government number plates.
This was contained in the report of the committee submitted to the secretary to the state government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the taskforce, Tijjani Murtala, said after the inauguration, the committee embarked on sensitisation, consultation and enforcement on the mandate given it.
Its said the taskforce was mandated to identify unauthorised usage of the government number plates by civil and public officers within the state and confiscate them.

“The finding revealed that, some of the government official number-plates now in circulation, were issued to vehicles different from the ones on which they were being found,” he said.
According to the committee, the abuse of such number plates constitutes security threats to the state, as criminals may use them to bypass security checks and carry out nefarious activities.
