A taskforce on the Elimination of Illegal Levies and Other Forms of Illegalities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, at the weekend, apprehended a group of individuals notorious for extortion and intimidation across the Gboko environ.
Vangeryina Moses, the Mayor of Gboko (Tor Geri U Gboko) led the taskforce that arrested the suspects, identified as Bem and Orzuluba also commonly known as Mr. Shua and Mr. Sampaio’s boys who allegedly coerced a provision store owner, David Onugwu, into surrendering assorted goods including wines, body cream, hair cream, bread, and a cash sum of N100,000 under threat. A statement by Terfa Michael, Media & Publicity Secretary to the taskforce, indicated that the gang, known for operating with impunity over a long period, finally met resistance as the taskforce, with the support of committed Gboko youths, moved swiftly to arrest the perpetrators.
The suspects, according to the statement, have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
