Operation Safe Haven, a multi-security taskforce maintaining peace and harmony in Plateau and some parts of Bauchi and Southern Kaduna, yesterday, killed three suspected armed robbers in Plateau State.
OPSH’s commander, Major General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, who made the disclosure to newsmen in Jos said the bodies of the suspects had been handed over to Mangu Police Division, in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
He added that three other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.
General Okonkwo explained that the suspects were killed Wednesday night while operating around the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp located in Mangu Halle.
“On Wednesday night, our men neutralised three notorious armed robbers on Mangu road by the NYSC Camp. They had robbed passengers of three vehicles of their belongings including phones and other valuables.
“After a long pursuit by our men, three out of the six robbers were neutralised while three others escaped and suspected to have fled into the adjoining villages with gunshot wounds,” he said.
The commander further disclosed that some of the items recovered from them included two locally made long guns, six cartridges and a locally made pistol with five 9MM rounds of live ammunition.
