The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has called on prospective members to strengthen their technical skills and uphold the ethics of the profession.

President and Chairman of Council of CITN, Mr. Innocent Ohagwa, spoke at the 2025 Pre-Induction Orientation Programme in Lagos.

The two-day programme brought together facilitators, senior officials of the Institute and candidates who have completed the requirements for induction.

The President highlighted the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s tax environment, noting that four major tax legislations assented by the President earlier this year are expanding the scope of tax practice and creating increased demand for competent and ethical professionals.

Ohagwa said technical competence and professional integrity are now crucial for relevance in the sector. “Technical competence is non-negotiable. Ethical conduct has become the bedrock of trust,” he said, adding that professionalism is the standard for all practitioners.

He explained that the CITN Charter empowers the Council to determine the knowledge and skills required for entry into the profession.
