Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, and a Northern advocacy group, Arewa Think Tank, have endorsed the Tax Reform Laws introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as a catalyst for economic growth, youth empowerment and sustainable development in the North.

The governor said the reforms would simplify Nigeria’s tax system, boost compliance and make it easier for businesses, particularly youth-led enterprises, to thrive.

Speaking through the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Comrade Jerry Adams, at a sensitisation summit organised by Arewa Think Tank in Kaduna, Sani said the new laws were designed to harmonise multiple revenue streams into nine clear revenue lines.

“The Tax Reform Laws are meant to streamline our numerous revenue sources into clearly defined and harmonised lines. This will reduce confusion, simplify compliance and significantly improve the ease of doing business,” he said.

Addressing youths drawn from across Northern Nigeria, the governor stressed that their role was central to the success of the reforms.

“You are entrepreneurs, innovators, professionals and community leaders. Your understanding, compliance and demand for accountability will determine the long-term impact of these reforms,” he said.

He added that taxation must translate into visible development outcomes to gain public trust.

“This summit is not merely about sensitisation; it is about empowerment and partnership. Tax reform must result in better roads, quality education, accessible healthcare, improved security and expanded economic opportunities,” Sani said.

Earlier, the Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, said the reforms presented a rare opportunity for Northern states to become more innovative, competitive and economically self-reliant.

“These reforms provide big fortunes and prospects that can benefit future generations if we embrace them today,” Yakubu said.

Yakubu called on Northern political, traditional and opinion leaders to patriotically support the reforms, urging state governments to leverage them to diversify their economies, strengthen internally generated revenue and invest in critical sectors.

“Tax reform is not a burden; it is an investment in a stronger, fairer and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
