The current clampdown on Kano Electricity Distribution Company by the TCN over none payment of energy supplied them has a devastatingly depressing effect on the customers under their franchise area of Jigawa, Kano and Katsina states. The vulnerable and innocent customers have been turned into the sacrificial lambs in this lingering TCN versus KEDCO saga of over three weeks as I write.

Frankly speaking, the TCN should know the antecedents of all the DisCos by now. The period of about six years is more than enough for the TCN to know the fairly serious ones among the eleven of them and the ones that are just existing by the special grace of the ‘Nigerian system’.  But, then, for long should we allow a precarious situation like this to toy with a very vital component of our National development? The concept ofNext Level is a very serious National Developmental Movement and it does not give  laggards a field day. It is even a miscarriage of justice to punish the teeming vulnerable customers (most of whom have been pauperized by KEDCO’s crazy billing) while treating the offender with kid gloves. The need of the customers is the message (Reliable Power) and not who the messenger is.  Therefore, the commensurate disciplinary action should seen to be taken on the culprit in the interest of the teeming loyal customers  now left in partial black out over no fault of theirs. Electricity energy is the basic necessity for the social and economic developments of a country and must not be allowed to be handled lackadaisically by any repressive- retrogressive force.
