A 27-year-old teacher with Hobrook Nursery and Primary School, Gbagada, Lagos, Biodun Afeez, is standing trial before an Ogba chief magistrate court for an alleged sexual assault on a two-year-old pupil of the school.

Afeez was dragged before the court on a two-count charge of defilement and assault. The accused, if found guilty, could go to jail for 10 years.

The prosecutor, Christopher John, told the court that the accused lured the victim (name withheld) into one of the classrooms in the school, removed her pant and proceeded to defile her.

John said that the accused was caught in the act by one of the school’s security men.

He said that the accused initially denied the act but the child kept crying and pointing at her private part when she was asked what had happened. Afeez was later handed over to the police in the area and the matter was thereafter transferred to the Gender Section. The presiding magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka, refused to take a plea by Afeez for bail because of what he described as the seriousness of the case.

Nwaka remanded the accused in prison custody and directed that the case file be directed to the office of the Lagos State Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
