Dr Steve Nwokocha, Director, Professional Operations of the council, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to Nwokeocha, the inductees are graduates from 44 institutions of higher learning across the country.
He said that the induction took place between Jan. and Dec. 2013 with the College of Education, Zuba, having the highest number of 1,256 inductees and Umar Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina as the least with only seven inductees.
Nwokeocha said they were inducted at the point of graduation, involving administration of oath of allegiance to the teachers and induction into the rudiment of the profession.
“Induction has a lot of things that it does, one is to register them before they go and their names are captured in our data and two, it helps us fight fake certificates because I think teaching have the highest number of fake certificates in circulation.’’
“It is not by design but they have the largest number of professionals more than all professions put together’’ he added.
He said TRCN’s vision on induction was to ensure that teachers had a sense of direction, legal identity and focus as professionals after their education without diverting to other jobs.
