He therefore appealed to the council chairman to review their case with a view to taking immediate action on their promotion.Reacting to the allegation, the education secretary, Dala Local Government Council, Alhaji  Muhammad Ismail Ayagi, said the last promotion was done in 2004 and not 2003 as alleged by the teachers.

He said he had been trying to resolve the issue of promotion since he assumed office in 2003, but  it was taking time because  the council would need not less than N15 million to settle  the promotion benefits. “With this economic meltdown raising such amount of money, it is not an easy task,” he declared.

The education secretary further stated that the last time they had a meeting with the council chairman, the council pledged to give him N2 million every month so that he could start the preparation for the promotion.

He, however, urged the teachers to appreciate the fact that Dala Local Government Council is the only council in the state that is paying its teachers their monthly salaries on time, saying this had been their system for quite a long time.

On the issue of promotion of teachers who go for further education, the secretary said the teachers who went without getting the permission of the authority concerned cannot get promoted.
