Malaysian educationist, Mrs. Marie Joseph, has said Nigeria needs to carry out periodic teachers’ training with a view to improving students’ outcome.
Mrs. Joseph, who was an administrator with the Euston British International School Abuja, stated this at a media briefing, saying if teachers are properly trained the impact will reflect on the pupils.
She noted that poor teaching quality can be fixed through training of teachers, saying, “If we have a lot of trained teachers, they can do a lot to solve the problems on ground.
“I think the government is all set for that. They have reduced the number of subjects and collapsed some into existing subjects but it is important to train teachers on these developments,” she said.
Mrs. Joseph also praised the free meal scheme for school children by the federal government, saying government should ensure it is strictly monitored to ensure full compliance and that students are fed with nutritional foods.
She disclosed plans to replicate the initiative as a school, saying, “I think it is a good policy and I will like to go into that because in Malaysia, where I came from, food is given; you have a glass of milk and toast bread. I will like to also go into it.”
Mrs. Joseph had also worked at the Federal Orphanage Home in Malaysia.
