Secondary school teachers in Kano have protested nonpayment of their eight months arrears, Kano Chronicle reports.
The teachers who visited Kano Media Trust office alleged that despite the promised made by the head of service in November last year that their arrears fund had been released, they had received not even a month arrears at the time of the protest.
The teachers’ spokesman who craved for anonymity said they protested because the head of service had disclosed over the radio that government had approved the fund for the arrears of over 1, 800 teachers employed into the teaching profession in January, 2015.
“We heard the head of service over the radio saying very soon our arrears would be released because it has been approved. He made this statement in November last year but up till now, we received nothing from the government,” the spokesman said, adding that they were all screened as directed by the government but heard nothing after that.
