Teachers sack: El-Rufa’i plotting mass arrest of labour leaders — NLC

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ayuba Wabba has alleged that the governor of Kaduna State Malam Nasir el- Rufa’i has commenced the process of seeking court warrant in order to arrest labour leaders  over the recent protest in the state.

Wabba in condemning the governor’s move said in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and due process, the court has no jurisdiction over labour and industrial relations matters, especially issues in dispute between the Kaduna State government and teachers in the state.

He stated this at the opening of  the Congress National Executive Council(NEC) meeting which began  Thursday  in Abuja.

Wabba  noted that the planned arrest would amount to violation of the fundamental principle of the right of workers.

Wabba said, “NEC is disturbed and wish to use this medium to condemn in strong terms the information we have from Kaduna State that the government have sought to get a court process from a magistrate court to arrest all Labour leaders in Kaduna.

“NEC has observed that this is not in tandem with the principles of the rule of law and due process, hence the said court has no jurisdiction over labour and industrial relations matters, especially the issues in dispute in Kaduna which is related to mass sack of workers.”
