The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has said it is saddened by the kidnap of 110 students of Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, in Yobe State by insurgents.

NUT said it was worried by the failure of government to swiftly rescue the girls from the fleeing terrorists a week after the school was attacked.

The Secretary General of NUT, Dr. Mike Ike Ene, said in a statement that the union was distressed by the incident. “With this development, it has become evident that students, teachers and the academic activities within the North East remain vulnerable, he said.

NUT, however, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the safe return of the girls and the remaining Chibok school girls and deploy security personnel to schools.
