Teachers in Kano state have been urged to at least learn one trade or the other ahead of their retirement so that they could fight frustration of living idly.
A lecturer from the Department of Education Bayero University, Kano Dr Bashir Mansur made the call at the annual prayer session organized by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Kano state chapter.
Mansur said teachers should be more concerned about their future after retirement than any other issue that affects their teaching profession, advising them to prepare well for their retirement by getting something that would occupy them.
The NUT state chairman, Malam Muhammad Abubakar Hambali said the prayer session was an annual event organized from the national level and then replicated at state and local government levels.
“It is the tradition of this union that at the beginning of every year, before any other work, prayer session is organized. We seek divine intervention on issues bedeviling the country and our teaching profession,”he said.
He stressed the need for the teachers to shun all acts capable of disuniting them, saying they could only succeed when they were united.
